River rafting, nature appreciation and organic desserts will combine for the Third Annual Day on the Rivera Sweet Extravaganza, September 12 on the Klamath River.

A fundraising event  for the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center, the river ride will feature wildlife sightings  and ecological and natural history insights from a local wildlife biologist.

The trip will start at Tree of Heaven and meander along a 7-mile stretch of gentle Class 2 and 3 rapids.

Novices, as well as children 4 and up, are welcome.  Experienced rafters and kayakers are encouraged to join in.

Last year more than 50 people participated with eight rafts, six kayaks, donations of over 100 bars of organic dark chocolate, four trays of organic peaches and four organic watermelons.

Trip organizer Shantam Sheptow said, “I would love to see a large and happy flotilla of friends, celebrating the river and joining to appreciate the Ecology Center for their tremendous accomplishments in protecting our bioregion over the past two decades.”

Fresh local organic fruits and chocolate delights will be provided along the way.

The non-profit Ecology Center’s mission is to preserve the Mount Shasta bioregion for future generations.

The requested donation is $85 for adults and $55 for kids under 18. Details can be found at www.riverdancers.com/ecology.html, or on Ecology Center’s website, www.mountshastaecology.org or call the Ecology Center at 926-5655.  Advance reservations recommended.
