A fine art exhibit will be held Saturday November 13 at Pink Photography, located at 4100 Pine Street in Dunsmuir. The show will feature the oil paintings of artists studying under instructor Aleksander Balos in Mt. Shasta. Balos moved to the U.S. from Poland in 1989 and studied in Chicago at The School of Representational Art. His own work is classical in style with riveting contemporary subject matter. Featured artists will include Catherine Christensen, Cindy Corrales, Janet Crittenden, Lou Wandro, Sharon LoMonaco and Shery Larson.

Although most of the featured artists had art experience prior to studying with Balos, some are embarking on painting for the first time. The idea to hold an art exhibit grew as the paintings matured in the class setting, taking on a rich life of their own. The paintings represent Siskiyou area landscapes, classically rendered still-lifes and incredibly realistic portraits – all of which have their own singular presence and authority.

Balos is a unique teacher in that while conveying to his students the time-honored techniques passed down from art history’s great European masters, he encourages each student to paint her/his own choice of subject matter in her/his preferred style. The show is titled “Phase I” so that viewers can follow each artist as s/he continues evolving in depth of ideas, technique and imagery.

The opening reception will be held Saturday, November 13 from 4-9pm where food and refreshment will be offered, with live music by The Village Harpist. Show runs until December 31. All are invited.
