2008 Chamber Events

October 9-12 — Mt. Shasta International Film Festival

Films will be showing in three theaters at Mt. Shasta Cinema in the shopping center in Mount Shasta, and at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed. Thursday night we will have the traditional Gala Party — $15 at the door. Festival organizers are inviting filmmakers to participate in audience Q&A's throughout the Festival and they will also participate in a filmmakers' symposium at COS. The schedule will also include a customary free film for the community. For more information call 530-926-4537.

November 28 — Christmas Tree Lighting and Merchant Open House

Gather in front of city hall to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. Join in as carols are sung by candlelight. Enchantingly the community Christmas tree, all the trees lining the streets downtown and the holiday decorations are lit at once. Santa drives by on a fire truck, he is on his way to his workshop located at the fire station. Santa and his elves will be building toys and baking. 2009 Chamber Events

TBA — Annual Awards Dinner

You're invited to the Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet. The banquet will be held at the City Park, Nixon Rd. It begins at 5:30 pm with a no-host bar social hour. Dinner, catered by Keith & Patti Cool from Mt. Shasta Supermarket, begins at 6:30 pm. Chicken, tri-tip, bread, salad and dessert will be served, and vegetarian lasagna is available upon request. Reservations are required, seats are limited. Tickets available at the Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau at 300 Pine Street or by calling 530-926-3696 ext 201.

TBA — Climb Against the Odds

Thirty-five breast cancer survivors, supporters and others impacted by the disease will challenge Mt. Shasta's peak this June as part of the Breast Cancer Fund's Climb Against the Odds mountain expedition. Their journey is both a collective effort to prevent breast cancer and a personal challenge to beat the disease. Besides training for the peak attempt, climbers commit to raising a minimum of $5,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund's work to prevent the disease.

July 2-4 — 4th of July Celebration

Join the fun-run/walk at 8:30 am, parade at noon , and fireworks over Lake Siskiyou at dusk. Booths and live music downtown on 5th and 6th. A big celebration for a small town!

TBA — ShastaYama Taiko Festival

In the alpine beauty of Mount Shasta a cultural phenomenon has taken hold. Taiko — Japanese drumming — is gaining popularity worldwide and has found its way to Mt. Shasta, CA . Twenty-four years ago, musicians Russel Baba and Jeanne Mercer founded Shasta Taiko, and their taiko program has had a direct impact on the development of American Taiko.

Saturday evening, at the base of majestic Mt. Shasta, the 5th annual ShastaYama Festival will once again entertain and inspire audiences with a spectacle of Japanese drumming, dance, and music. Last year's festival attracted over a thousand concert-goers, who experienced world class artistry in the dramatic venue of Mt. Shasta's Shastice Park.

TBA — Summit Century Bike Ride

Why not ride the prettiest, toughest century in California? The Super Century is like a "Tour de France" mountain stage. Cloverleaf route allows you to bail out if you're cooked, the finish is nearby. The event features four different rides, each distinct and with many challenges. All rides include food and refreshments at various rest stops, lunch and dinner at the city park finish. For information call 1-800-926-4865.

Labor Day Weekend — Cool Mountain Nights

Celebrate the end of summer on Labor Day Weekend; on Saturday enjoy a Classic Car Show 'n Shine and a downtown street fair. Sunday is the Tinman Triathlon at Lake Siskiyou in the morning, the annual Blackberry Music Festival in the afternoon at City Park. For additional information call 1-800-926-4865.

TBA — Music by the Mountain

An exciting new summer chamber music festival in the Mt. Shasta area in northern California, now in its fourth year. It aims to have a broad impact within the community by bringing world class musicians to the area not only to perform, but to teach and interact personally with young musicians.

October 4th, Saturday — Weed

Abner Weed Frontier Days with Rollin' Weed Show & Shine. Downtown Weed, starting at 10 am. Come join the fun with local musicians, food and beer vendors, and custom car and bike show. There will be an Art Fair, arts & craft vendors and a Wine Garden. For further info contact the Weed Chamber of Commerce at 530-938-4624.

October 4th, Saturday — McCloud

St. Joseph's Parish Hall on Columbero drive is the place to celebrate Octoberfest. Fabulous festive German dinner, German beer and wine. For more info and ticket prices please check the website mccloudchamber.com or call 530-964-3183.

October 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th, Saturdays — McCloud

The popular Fall Pumpkin Train features both open-air cars and inside seating. The train runs from McCloud to Signal Butte, where children and adults alike are allowed to detrain and select a pumpkin of their choice as part of the ticket price. Hot drinks and finger foods are available for purchase. Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $12 for children under the age of 12. October 5th, Sunday — Mt. Shasta

2008 Future Boys & Girls Club Charity Golf Tournament is being held at the Mount Shasta Resort, 1000 Siskiyou Lake Blvd. There is a $100 entry fee and the entry deadline is Sept. 29th. There will be a 2 pm awards luncheon with cash prizes, including the Fabulous Hole-In-One Prize. Call the Mt. Shasta Resort for more info 530-926-3052.

October 9th, Thursday — Mt. Shasta

The Mt. Shasta International Film Festival Gala opening night party begins at 7 pm at the Mt. Shasta Community Center, 629 Alder St. The Gala kicks off the Film Festivals three day event. The Gala is fun, entertaining and filled with food and wine. Filmmakers are expected to be in attendance. The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $15 at the door.

October 10th-12th, Friday-Sunday — Mt. Shasta

The fifth Annual Mt. Shasta International Film Festival. Tickets are available now through October 9th at Village Books, 320 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. for cash or check. To purchase tickets by credit card and will-call orders call the Mt. Shasta Visitors Bureau 1-800-926-4865. Tickets are $10 each, with discounts for every 5 tickets purchased. October 11th, Saturday — Mt. Shasta

Come in to The Stage Door, 414 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. and enjoy the wonderful sounds of Ockhams Razor, an Irish-roots band specializing in what they've termed 'hard stompin' Irish Folk'. Their youthful and exuberant approach to their music and performances has gathered reviews as varied as 'frenzied and frenetic', 'Turbo-Celtic', 'Ethnic Punk' and 'Seattle's premier Irish Band'. October 11th, Saturday — Montague

Come to a free public lecture at the Montague Community Hall, 200-S 11th, 10 amÑ12:30 pm, presented by Dr. Shanhong Lu, MD, Ph.D. What is the connection between stress, poor sleep, environmental pollution, obesity, nutritional imbalance and accelerated aging? The important question is: What can we do about this? A Closer Look will give you the answer to these questions. Come and enjoy light and healthy refreshments and lots of information and research.

October 11th, Saturday — Mt. Shasta

Voices Between the Mountains: Coming of Age in the Siskiyous, a film by Siskiyou County youth about Siskiyou County, directed by Mark Oliver, will be shown at 8 pm at The Flying Lotus, 315 A S. Mt. Shasta Blvd. The cost is $5. Call 530-926-0527 for more info.

October 11th, Saturday — Mt. Shasta

Conversation with a Tramp: An Evening with John Muir is being presented at 7 pm at the Sisson Museum, 1 N. Old Stage Road. This stirring production is a fine introduction to both Muir the man and his profound love of wilderness. Tickets are $15 each pre-event, and available at the Mt. Shasta Visitor's Bureau 300 Pine St and Village Books, 320 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd.

October 12th, Sunday — Mt. Shasta

The Spirit of John Muir is a fun romp through some of the very best of Muir's grand, thrilling adventures in his beloved western wilderness. Presented at the Mt. Shasta City Park Upper lodge at 2 pm. Tickets are $15 pre-event and available at the Mt. Shasta Visitor's Bureau, 300 Pine St. and Village Books, 320 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd.

October 18th, Saturday — Yreka

Come to the Siskiyou County Fairgrounds in Yreka for the Oktober Harvest Festival. Free activities for the kids, street fair and beer tasting. Bull riding exhibition at 7 pm. Please call the Siskiyou Golden Fair at 530-842-2767.

October 22nd, Wednesday — Mt. Shasta

Senior Fall Festival at the Mt. Shasta City Park from 9 am to noon. Exhibitors will offer information on health screenings, nutrition, wellness, legal services and health care information. There will also be a special lunch, with a $3 donation requested. Please call 530-926-2494 for reservations.

October 26th, Sunday — Weed

The College of the Siskiyous Performing Arts Series presents The All-American Boys Chorus. They have performed to standing ovations all over the world. They have appeared on The Disney Channel, in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and a multitude of Performing Arts Centers across the US. The Siskiyou County Children's Choir, under the direction of Carol Taforo, will perform with the All-American Boys Choir. The performance will be held at the College of the Siskiyous Kenneth W. Ford Theater, 800 College Ave. Tickets prices are $20 General Admission, $19 for Seniors (60 & over) and $12 for children age 12 and under. Tickets go on sale beginning Sept. 8th.
