Recreation in and around Mt. Shasta
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is being rediscovered as an excellent winter sport. New high tech equipment is available for rent or sale in outdoor stores in Mt. Shasta. The best places for snowshoeing are at Bunny Flat on Mt. Shasta, and around Castle Lake in the Eddys west of I-5. Those who prefer a more "civilized" backcountry experience can explore the greatly expanded 12 kilometer network of snowshoe-packed trails at the Mt. Shasta Board & Ski Park Nordic Center. These trails are open to both snowshoers and skiers... even dogs are allowed!
